The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
Boys that have completed the 5th grade, but are not yet 18 years old may join. We are working on reciting enough girls to start a unit for them too.
No. A scout that works hard and stays active can earn the Eagle rank in less than three years. Joining at any age will be a lot of fun and you will acquire life skills and leadership experience.
Visit us on Monday nights at 7pm. If you decide to join, you can register at a meeting.
Scout Troops are scout-lead and are comprised of smaller groups called patrols. Scouts divide into patrols for camping and other activities. Working together as a team, patrol members share the responsibility for the patrol's success. They gain confidence by serving in positions of patrol leadership. All patrol members enjoy the friendship, sense of belonging, and achievements of the patrol and of each of its members. All leaders are parent volunteers.
Scouting costs vary from month to month with the activities and overnights that the troop plans. We try to keep the monthly overnight costs as low as possible. Most overnights are about $15, though we have a couple of them a year that can be as much as $50. Summer camp, the most unique scouting experience, costs around $475. There are national registration fees of $125 annually. The good news is that scouts have the opportunity to raise all of the funds associated with these activities. To raise funds Troop 269 hosts an annual Chili Supper and Pancake Breakfast. We also sell trash bags and fireworks.
